Activities
Glendale’s long involvement with the community has led to some great ongoing activities where you can begin making a difference in people’s lives immediately.
These activities are commitments that are, generally, weekly, or monthly, in nature. Most of these activities require some type of church | community partnership to make them work.

Open Door
Open Door Food Distribution, held on the second Wednesday of every month from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Eagle Ridge Elementary School.
Our team of volunteers helps distributed food at the school. Also, the is the only site where Open Door offers a unique delivery service for those unable to come in peron thanks to dedicated volunteers from Glendale UMC.
There are also other ways to get involved, such as assembling snack packs for children to take home on Fridays, ensuring they have food for the weekend - or supporting the pop-up pantry at the Eagle Ridge Middle School.
Reading Buddies
Meet a group of joyous and enthusiastic elementary school readers with Reading Buddies. You’ll be introduced to some great kids who read at all levels. Your involvement may help some children who do not have a strong English reader in their live develop confidence in their reading skills. You also may find young readers who need one-on-one reading to allow their growing reading to move to the next level.
With reading buddies, your experience will definitely alter their lives, and it will likely, alter yours, as well.
The day of the week is fairly flexible so you can likely find a time that works for you to become a reading buddy.
Book Club
The book club gathers at 1:00 PM on the third Tuesday of each month. Each meeting is hosted by a different member who is responsible for leading the discussion and providing snacks and beverages.
The club starts with casual conversation and then about an hour of book discussion.
